Of Egyptian and Polish heritage and raised in Canada, Mona El Batrik embodies a fusion of creativity, precision, and cultural diversity. Her design journey began in fashion and evolved through film design, where she spent over a decade developing a deep understanding of lighting, atmosphere, and narrative. This foundation ignited a passion for how material and space shape human experience.
Mona holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design from Emily Carr University, where she gained extensive experience in materials, fabrication, and process development. She later pursued a Master’s in Advanced Ecological Architecture and Biocities at IAAC in Barcelona, expanding her award winning practice to explore the relationship between architecture, ecology, and adaptive systems. .
Her multidisciplinary work spans architecture, installation art, industrial and furniture design, poetry, textiles, and food systems, each project reflecting her curiosity for water, nature based solutions and how design can connect people, place, and environment. Mona’s creative process is driven by a balance of conceptual thinking and technical execution, always approaching challenges with calm precision and an inventive spirit.
Now working at the convergence of art, science, and architecture, Mona investigates how design can learn from natural systems to create adaptive, context-driven, and regenerative solutions. Drawing inspiration from biology, astronomy, and environmental processes, her practice seeks to harmonize human perception with material intelligence, cultivating a future where design acts as a bridge between creativity and ecology.
