Kora Bamboo Bench

Kora is a bamboo meditation bench crafted from a combination of lidi, splits, and poles, employing traditional techniques such as bending and lamination. The design celebrates the natural flexibility and strength of bamboo while exploring organic form, comfort, and the poetry of handmade craft.

The bench was conceived as a transitional space just outside a yoga studio practice room. Its kidney-shaped form, inspired by the rhythm of breath, accommodates 2–3 people comfortably, whether seated cross-legged, in lotus position, or reclining. The curves and asymmetry were carefully measured to harmonize with the building’s foundational bamboo structures, creating a dialogue between material, space, and human presence.

More than a functional object, Kora invites pause and mindfulness. The tactile warmth of bamboo and the gentle curves of its form encourage users to connect physically and sensorially with the bench, offering a moment of stillness before or after practice. In this way, the project embodies reverence for natural materials, the poetry of gesture, and the subtle rhythms of daily life.
